Participation in the archaeological excavation campaign 2022 at Nigde Kinik Hoyuk, Turkey (deadline 31.10.2021)

The present message is addressed to students of our department who are interested to participate in the archaeological excavations at Nigde Kinik Hoyuk (Cappadocia, Turkey).
The excavations at Nigde Kinik Hoyuk are part of an international project run by the University of Pavia, the University of Florence, ISAW-New York University and the ‘Dokuz Eylul’ University of Izmir. The site is a multi-phases urban settlement occupied from the Early Bronze Age to the end of the Hellensitic period (ca 3000-30 BC).
Participants are expected to spend a months at the excavations abroad, to learn in the trench by more experienced archaeology fieldwork technique during the morning, and to learn participation to labwork on stratigraphy and architecture, processing of small finds and processing of ceramics.They are expected to work five and a half days a week, with free Saturdays afternoon and Sundays.
Board and lodging costs are entirely covered by the excavations project, travel and insurance costs are likely covered by the project as well, depending on funds availability. Archaeological excavations visa in Turkey is to be covered by the participants.
While all interested students are encouraged to submit their application, priority will be given to students of the Master Degree: The ancient Mediterranean World.
